Erin Hartigan, PT, D.P.T., Ph.D., ATC, LAT is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy within the Westbrook College of Health Professions at the SWAGÊÓƵ. Dr. Hartigan earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Physiology (‘95), Certificate of Athletic Training (‘96), Master’s of Science (‘97) and Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy degrees (‘04) from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and her Doctorate of Philosophy in Biomechanics and Movement Science (‘09) from the University of Delaware. In 2009, Dr. Hartigan became a Board Certified Clinical Specialists in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and achieved Emeritus status in 2019. Among the many reasons Dr. Hartigan chose to join the physical therapy department at SWAGÊÓƵ are the opportunity to teach in a systems-based program along with the ability to provide students guidance as needed. She chose to conduct research at SWAGÊÓƵ because of their state of the art research equipment available on the Portland campus and the collegial nature of the faculty at SWAGÊÓƵ. Dr. Hartigan has clinical and research expertise in evaluating function in women with stress urinary incontinence and in athletes are anterior cruciate ligament injury. She has written several refereed journals, presented at local, regional, national conferences on this topic. She also co-authored The Knee Chapter in Levangie and Norkin’s 2011, Joint Structure and Function: a Comprehensive Analysis. 5th ed and The Hip Chapter in Norkin CC and White DJ, Measurement of Joint Motion A Guide to Goniometry. (5th ed. 2016). Dr. Hartigan is an Active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), serving on the American Academy of Sports PT, Academy of Pelvic Health PT, and Academy of Orthopedic PT sections. She is an abstract reviewer for CSM and reviewer of grant applications for these sections. She also is a manuscript reviewer for many well-respected journals, such as the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, Sports Health A Multidisciplinary Approach, and Journal of Women's Health Physical Therapy.

Research
Current research
1. Use clinical measures and state of the art motion analysis equipment to determine whether women with stress urinary incontinence have different pelvic floor muscle and hip muscles profiles and walk or jump differently than women who do not leak urine.
2. Determine whether face-to-face faciltation meetings improve oputcomes more than providing physical therapists with an undated electronic medical recording template when treating patients after anterior cruciate ligament rupture and reconstruction.
