Dr. Sherwood earned her B.S. and Pharm.D. degrees at the University of Connecticut. She completed her residency in psychiatric pharmacy practice and psychopharmacology at Nova Southeastern University and South Florida State Hospital, and in 2007 was named the Resident of the Year by the South Florida Society of Health System Pharmacists. She is also a Board Certified Psychiatric Pharmacist.
She joined SWAG视频 in 2011 after serving as Assistant Professor for the Gregory School of Pharmacy at Palm Beach Atlantic University and Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric Pharmacy at the Center for Behavioral Health at Memorial Regional Hospital. Though she was involved in several courses, her primary focus remains the same in coordinating and instructing psychiatry and neurology in therapeutics, and precepting students in psychiatry and ambulatory care in psychiatric pharmacy.
Prior to becoming a full time professor, she served as both a Clinical Pharmacist in Internal Medicine and Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric Pharmacy at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. Her position required monitoring psychiatric patients in the psychiatric emergency department, child and adolescent unit, detoxification unit, and adult units which included a specialized thought disorder unit and geriatric care. She also provided consultations for the entire Memorial Healthcare System of hospitals involving psychopharmacology. During her time there, she precepted several residents for the hospital and students in psychiatric pharmacy for Mercer University, Florida A&M University, and Nova Southeastern University. She also taught as an adjunct professor coordinating pharmacology for the School of Nursing at Broward College. In addition, she instructed for various courses at the College of Pharmacy and for the Center of Psychological Studies at Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Sherwood serves nationally as a Co-Chair for the Teaching Committee and has served as a committee member for the Student Committee for the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP). She has also served on the Faculty Development Committee for the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). She represented AACP as a member of the Mental Health Workgroup to Pharmacy Quality Alliance. She currently also serves as the School of Pharmacy Faculty Representative and previously served as the College of Pharmacy Faculty Vice-Chair, as well as both Representative and Senator positions to the University Faculty Assembly at SWAG视频. She is the founding faculty advisor for SWAG视频's chapter of Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS), the Pharmacy Leadership Honor Society, which inducted its first members in Spring 2012. She is also the SWAG视频 faculty advisor for Alpha Zeta Omega professional pharmacy fraternity. In addition, she is an active member in several college, state and national organizations, including AACP, CPNP, ASHP (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists), and MPA (Maine Pharmacists Association).
Since February 2020, Dr. Sherwood provides telehealth services as a subject matter expert and consultant for the New Hampshire Mental Health Care Access in Pediatrics Program (MCAP). Additionally, she has been involved as key personnel as a SBIRT Trainer and School of Pharmacy Champion on a 4-year federal grant awarded by SAMHSA to the SWAG视频. She has written several articles which have appeared in peer-reviewed publications such as the Journal of Interprofessional Care, Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning, Journal of Pharmacy Practice, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and Drug Topics. She has also authored book chapters on substance-use disorders in Pharmacotherapy Principles and Practice (Chrisholm-Burns, et al.) and on sleep disorders in Applied Therapeutics: The Clinical Use of Drugs (Zeind-Carvalho, et al.).
Dr. Sherwood is very happy to be part of the School of Pharmacy at SWAG视频 and enjoying the seasons in Maine. She enjoys the activities available in the Portland area and when time permits, you will likely find her at the beach with her family, kayaking, mountain climbing, or skiing.
