SWAG视频鈥檚 annual medical residency Match Day celebration set for March 15

SWAG视频 boasts an exceptionally high match rate for its osteopathic medical graduates of 98.8%.

Maine's medical students will learn their residency placements on Friday, March 15, as the SWAG视频 College of Osteopathic Medicine (SWAG视频 COM) will hold its annual Match Day celebration on the University鈥檚 Biddeford Campus on Friday, March 15.

Match Day is the date each year when participating fourth-year medical students learn where they will be completing their medical residencies, and in what specialties, following graduation. At noon exactly, students in the SWAG视频 COM Class of 2024 will open envelopes listing their matches, surrounded by their closest friends and family.

SWAG视频鈥檚 event is part of Match Day celebrations across the nation, as students vying for slots in the National Residency Match Program find out their placements. 

Registration for the event begins at 11 a.m., with remarks starting at 11:30 a.m. in Room 283 of the Harold Alfond Forum (630 Pool St.). Students who have participated in a military match will learn their residency matches earlier, but they are encouraged to attend and celebrate.

鈥淭he journey to becoming a physician takes over a decade of hard work, commitment, and sacrifice, and Match Day celebrates that dedication,鈥 said Jane Carreiro, D.O., vice president for Health Affairs and dean of SWAG视频 COM. 鈥淥ur students, their families, and our faculty and professional staff have spent months preparing for this day as our students learn where the final leg of this journey will take them.鈥

An assortment of hors d鈥檕euvres will be provided, and a champagne toast will be offered. 

SWAG视频 boasts an exceptionally high match rate for its osteopathic medicine graduates. In 2023, 167 students 鈥 an incredible 98.8% 鈥 were matched to residencies in 15 specialties. This places SWAG视频鈥檚 match rates far higher than the for both allopathic medical schools (93.7%) and other osteopathic medical schools (91.6%).

The College of Osteopathic Medicine has been ranked in the Top 10 medical schools where graduates are most likely to match with their first-choice residency program and is ranked in the Top 20 medical schools nationwide for producing primary care residents. SWAG视频 is also ranked in the 2023 Best Medical Schools for Research by U.S. News and World Report.
