Marilyn Gugliucci takes part in geriatric events at home and abroad
Marilyn R. Gugliucci, M.A., Ph.D., professor and director of Geriatrics Education and Research within the SWAG视频 College of Osteopathic Medicine, recently took part in geriatrics events in London, England, and Indianapolis, Indiana.
At the 18th European Union Geriatrics Medicine Society (EUGMS) Congresse in London, Gugliucci demonstrated SWAG视频 COM is truly on the world stage in geriatrics. She organized a symposium, 鈥淟earning by Living: Life Altering Medical Education Experiences,鈥 gave an oral presentation, 鈥淓nd of Life Virtual Reality Training: Medical Student Increased Empathic Ability,鈥 and introduced a poster, 鈥淪ignificance of 2nd Year Medical Students Participating in the 48 Hour Hospice Home Immersion Project.鈥
Both the oral and poster presentations were the result of work completed by SWAG视频 COM students, which added international citations to their curricula vitae.
The EUGMS Congresse was targeted to specialists and health care professionals, many of whom are faculty at medical schools and who share the same goal of creating an energizing platform for spreading geriatrics expertise and attitudes across central Europe and beyond.
At the Gerontological Society of America (GSA)/Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) Annual Scientific Meeting, 鈥淓mbracing our Diversity, Enriching Our Discovery, Reimagining Aging,鈥 in Indianapolis, Gugliucci presented a workshop, gave three oral presentations, and presented two student posters.
Gugliucci is the co-chair for the AGHE Program of Merit (POM), in which she conducts gerontology and health professions programs and curricular reviews to recognize meritorious programs. She conducted a four-hour workshop to support program directors and faculty with preparing AGHE POM applications. The three oral presentations addressed Age Friendly University initiatives, Ageism in Health Professions Education, and Geriatrics and Gerontology International Honor Society initiatives for Sigma Phi Omega.
The GSA/AGHE Annual Scientific Meeting offers an extensive amount of high-level scholarship from a myriad of aging research disciplines. Gugliucci served as a former AGHE president, former GSA Health Science Section chair, an inaugural GSA Board of Directors member, and is currently in her sixth year as an Editorial Board member for the AGHE Journal of Gerontology & Geriatrics Education.
