SWAG视频 welcomes Icelandic Ambassador Bergd铆s Ellertsd贸ttir to campus
The SWAG视频 hosted Icelandic Ambassador Bergd铆s Ellertsd贸ttir for a reception at SWAG视频 North: The Institute for North Atlantic Studies on Friday, Aug. 20.
It was Ellertsd贸ttir鈥檚 first time visiting Portland, a trip she made to assist the Maine delegation in preparing for its upcoming trip to the Arctic Circle Assembly in the Icelandic capital of Reykjav铆k this October. It will be the first meeting of the Arctic Circle Assembly since 2019, which was well attended by representatives from SWAG视频.
SWAG视频 President James D. Herbert, Ph.D., gave remarks at Friday鈥檚 reception, as did Holly Parker, Ph.D., director of SWAG视频 North.
鈥SWAG视频 North itself is the product of an Arctic Circle Assembly, and so we鈥檙e very excited to be going back this year,鈥 Parker said. 鈥淪WAG视频 North is committed to help Maine and the region achieve its sustainability goals to create healthier environments and economies.鈥
Also in attendance were representatives from the Maine International Trade Center, the Maine North Atlantic Development Office, the University of Southern Maine, New England Ocean Cluster, and the office of Governor Janet Mills.
Ellertsd贸ttir took note of each organization鈥檚 expectations for the upcoming trip, and she provided an update on the COVID-19 situation in Iceland.
Ellertsd贸ttir also said she had enjoyed her time in Portland.
鈥淭his is the first time I鈥檓 here, and I鈥檓 not sure I鈥檓 going to leave,鈥 Ellertsd贸ttir remarked.
