SWAG视频 College of Osteopathic Medicine (SWAG视频 COM) alum David Duval, D.O. 鈥87, received the Distinguished Service Award from the New Hampshire Osteopathic Association (NHOA) at its Winter Symposium on Feb. 1.

Duval, of Bedford, New Hampshire, graduated from SWAG视频 in 1987. He has practiced as an anesthesiologist with Parkland Medical Center in Derry, New Hampshire, since 1991. At the time of his hiring, he was the first osteopathic doctor to practice at the hospital.

Duval is also a 1983 graduate of the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy.

Following his time at SWAG视频, he completed an osteopathic internship at Southeastern Medical Center in North Miami Beach, Florida, and went on to complete a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital, before returning to New Hampshire.

Duval said he was taken aback by news of the NHOA award.

鈥淢y first reaction was disbelief,鈥 Duval said. 鈥淭he SWAG视频 College of Osteopathic Medicine has graduated countless outstanding physicians since its inception and to be recognized for this award is a huge honor.鈥

It was the holistic approach to patient care taught at SWAG视频 that has guided Duval in his practice, he said.

鈥淎 patient is more than just a person with a medical issue,鈥 he added. 鈥淓very patient is different and taking the time to understand each and every one has made me a far better physician, and it has made the practice of medicine far more rewarding.鈥
