SWAG视频 Doctor of Physical Therapy students present projects at regional oncology meeting
The SWAG视频 Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program was well represented recently at the Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society (NNECOS) spring meeting.
Oncology clinicians and students from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont attended the meeting. The gathering in Concord, New Hampshire included continuing education sessions, patient panels, platform and poster presentations, exhibitors and networking. This year鈥檚 theme was the 鈥淚nnovative Management of Colorectal Cancer.鈥
SWAG视频 students Andrew Chongaway (DPT, 鈥19) and Alyssa Deardorff (DPT, 鈥19) displayed their poster and gave a podium presentation of their NNECOS grant funded project.
The project titled, 鈥淎 Guided Web-Based Yoga Series for Pediatric Cancer Survivors,鈥 was completed during Chongaway and Deardorff鈥檚 independent study coursework in the fall of 2018 with Amy Litterini, PT, D.P.T., associate clinical professor in the Department of Physical Therapy.
Deardorff also presented a poster of her case report on a cancer survivor titled, "Functional Mobility for a Patient with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Chronic GVHD, and Corticosteroid Use: A Case Report."
The project was part of Deardorff鈥檚 coursework within the DPT program with Litterini and was completed following a rotation at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her work received third place recognition at the conference.
Chongaway is currently on clinical rotation at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Physical therapy students Mikaela McGuire, Casey Chabot, Lindsay Tiberi, Jessica Diggins and Maya Ahluwalia (DPT, 鈥20) also attended the conference.
