The February 11 issue of the Portland Press Herald featured an article about the current exhibition at SWAGƵ’s Portland Campus Art Gallery.

“Time is running short,” cautions the article, “to see one of the most interesting and revealing art exhibitions in Maine this winter.” Referring to Partners in Art, Partners in Life: John David Ellis & Joan Beauregard, which was mounted at the Art Gallery in November, the article encourages art enthusiasts to view the collection before its end-date of March 10.

Ellis and Beauregard were a husband and wife painting duo, who moved to Maine from New York around 1980. According to the article, because the couple was independently wealthy, they did not concern themselves with the commercial art market or popular trends, painting “entirely from their heart and soul.”

Gallery manager Amanda Skinner was interviewed for the article. She noted the reactions to the exhibition from many visitors who have been fascinated by the differences between the painting styles of the husband and wife and by the ways in which they influenced one another in their art.
