SWAG视频鈥檚 Mark Schuenke recognized by international association for his teaching and work
Mark Schuenke, Ph.D., associate professor of anatomy in the Biomedical Sciences Department, was recently named the 2018 recipient of the Silas Weir Mitchell Award, presented by the International Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons (AENS) to encourage research in neuroscience by physicians in clinical neurology training programs. He received the award at the AENS annual symposium in New Orleans, on November 10, 2018.
Schuenke was recognized for his outstanding contribution and body of work to the understanding of peripheral nerve physiology and disease.
He conducts research into the anatomy of potential nerve entrapment sites and surgical procedures. He also works with surgeons in dissection-based workshops to further their understanding of anatomy and devise new surgical approaches.
Schuenke hosts an advanced surgical techniques course for AENS surgeons in the SWAG视频 cadaver lab each year.
鈥淢y interactions with AENS members shape the way they approach their patients by helping them devise new surgical approaches and diagnostics鈥 he explained. 鈥淚t is a pleasure to work with them and an honor to receive this award.鈥
The Mitchell Award is named for Silas Weir Mitchell, an American physician and writer considered to be the father of neurology.
