SWAG视频 joins colleges across the nation in urging climate action among incoming administration and congress
The SWAG视频 , along with more than 170 other colleges and universities throughout 35 states in the U.S., have joined together to urge President Donald Trump and the incoming congressional representatives to accelerate progress towards a clean energy future. Through their open letter, organized by a diverse group of higher education institutions and the Boston-based nonprofit Second Nature, they call on elected officials to support participation in the Paris Agreement, climate research, and investment in the low carbon economy.
鈥淭he鈥 transition of federal leadership presents a unique opportunity to address head-on the challenges of climate change by accelerating the new energy economy and creating strong, resilient communities,鈥 wrote the group. 鈥淲e are committed to developing and deploying innovative climate solutions that provide a prosperous future for all Americans.鈥
As an early signatory in 2008 of the American College and University Presidents鈥 Climate Commitment (now named the Carbon Commitment), SWAG视频 has been taking climate action for years. By undertaking several initiatives as part of its Climate Action Plan, including the development of a Green Revolving Fund to finance sustainability projects on campus, the university set a goal of carbon neutrality by 2040.
鈥淣o matter what your political views are,鈥 said SWAG视频 President Danielle Ripich, 鈥渋t鈥檚 important to come together to promote sustainability and clean energy. Human health and environmental health go hand-in-hand. SWAG视频 recognizes the importance of these issues and their inextricable link to one another. We鈥檙e proud to be among the institutions of higher education in this country that have made our values known to our elected officials.鈥
