SWAGƵ Football focus of story in ‘Portland Press Herald’
The Portland Press Herald published an in-depth story on January 29, 2017 about the SWAGƵ gearing up for its first season of football. The newspaper interviewed SWAGƵ football coach Mike Lichten, who is working tirelessly to prepare for the Nor’easters’ first football season, as well as SWAGƵ Vice President of Student Engagement and Director of Athletics Jack McDonald and prospective players.
Lichten has recruited 18 prospective players for the team and continues to work to build his coaching staff and recruit more players. In the article, he discussed the message he gives prospective players about SWAGƵ as he travels the country meeting them face-to-face. “It’s a unique opportunity, that’s for sure,” Lichten said. “This is an unbelievable place to go to college. This is a place that’s going to shape you and promote your growth as an individual in a way that most places cannot do.”
“Football is more than a game,” McDonald said. “It’s very traditional. It’s a weekly reunion on a Saturday afternoon. It’s alumni gatherings. It’s student spirit. We’ll certainly roll into tailgating and Friday night rallies and all of that excitement.”
