In part three of ‘Hespress’ series, Anouar Majid discusses Israel, nationalism and oil
SWAGƵ Vice President of Communications and Global Affairs Anouar Majid, Ph.D., was interviewed by Moroccan newspaper Hespress for a series about the United States and its relationship with Morocco.
The third article in the series, titled, “Majid: The Trinity of Israel, Nationalism and Oil Destroyed the Image of America,” explored three things that have tainted the perception of the United States for the Arab world.
Majid discussed the history of America’s relationship with Israel, stating that the first Americans related to the Jews as a people who were forced to migrate to escape oppression and injustice.
According to Majid it was the birth of the nation of Israel and the U.S.’s growing reliance on foreign oil that began America’s strained relationship with the Arab world. The emergence of Arab nationalism further alienated Muslim-majority countries from the West. In order to repair this fractured relationship, Majid stated, the Arab world must find a relationship with religion that embraces critical thinking and does not hinder progress.
