Health care stories from the field: SWAG视频 students hear real world accounts from alumni
The SWAG视频 Office of Alumni Advancement partnered with SWAG视频 resident advisors to host the second annual, 鈥淎bNormal Cases: Perspectives Across the Fields of Healthcare.鈥 The event serves as an opportunity for SWAG视频 Alumni to present one of their most unique cases to current SWAG视频 students to give them a taste of some of the rare circumstances they may experience in their fields of study.
More than 50 undergraduate students attended this year鈥檚 event. Each alumni speaker presented a case, providing context to explain their role in health care and how it overlaps with other health professionals. Speakers each highlighted when and where they interact with other health professionals in the care of their patients. Students were given an opportunity to ask questions between each case, and several students remained after the presentation to meet the speakers and ask more specific questions about graduate programs and various other topics.
Health professionals from various fields were selected to showcase a variety of medical careers students can pursue. Featured presenters included Kate Carlson, PharmD 鈥13; Michael Conte, D.O., assistant clinical professor; Chelsey Valentine Helmke, M.S.W. 鈥15; and Danielle Wood 鈥10, PA-C.
The student planning committee was comprised of nine resident advisors: Wren M. Burton 鈥17, Shannon P. Leavey 鈥17, Nathan M. Oakes 鈥17, Aaron M. Thibeault 鈥17, Christina M. McLaughlin 鈥18, Thomas A. Morin 鈥18, Emily G. Fellows 鈥17, Louanntha M. Benoit 鈥19 and Autumn R. Stupca 鈥19.
