Celebrate Earth Month with Free Activities at SWAG视频
The SWAG视频 is celebrating the 45th anniversary of Earth Day with a series of events throughout April 2015 that are free and open to the public:
- April 14, 6 p.m.: Betting the Farm 鈥 movie screening
- April 15, 5 p.m.: Mitchell Thomashow 鈥 keynote presentation
- April 22, 9 a.m.: Earth flag raising
- April 22, 9 a.m.: Community service projects
- April 22, 11 a.m.: Sustainable vendor fair
- April 22, 11:30 a.m.: Portland campus cookout
- April 22, 11:45 a.m.: Peaceful gathering and Labyrinth walk
- April 22, 12 p.m.: Lunch and Learn with Deb Soule
- April 22, 2 p.m.: Blueberry garden planting
- April 26, 11 a.m.: Biddeford campus cleanup and barbeque
- April 28, 11 a.m.: Medicinal herbal garden planting
Mitchell Thomashow, M.A., Ed.D., former president of Unity College, will be visiting the Biddeford Campus for a full day on April 15, joining a number of classes and attending the Environmental Council meeting to engage students, faculty and staff in discussions about campus sustainability. His keynote presentation will focus on his recent book, 鈥淭he Nine Elements of a Sustainable Campus,鈥 which provides a framework for advancing sustainable living and teaching in a variety of campus environments.
On April 22, Deb Soule, founder of Avena Botanicals in Rockport, Maine, will provide an overview of the herbs she grows and the remedies she creates. Avena Botanicals is a certified biodynamic, organic farm where herbal healing remedies are crafted by hand. Soule's passion for plants, gardens and healing and her commitment to sharing herbal knowledge with others is central to her work.
