James Sulikowski interviewed for national story on resurgence of great white sharks
James Sulikowski, Ph.D., SWAGÊÓƵ associate professor of marine science, was interviewed by Associated Press for a June 20th story about a new National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) report that found that the numbers of great white sharks are surging in the the ocean off the eastern U.S. and Canada.
The story notes that although great whites have a fearsome reputation, they as apex predators are critical to the ocean ecosystem. Sulikowski said the NOAA study could help better target future conservation efforts for great whites. ‘‘We need these sharks in our waters.’’
The story appeared in dozens of newspapers and other online media outlets across the nation, including the Boston Globe and USAToday.
