SWAG视频 announces new online M.S.Ed. in career and technical education

The SWAG视频 (SWAG视频) announces the launch of its master's in education in career and technical education. SWAG视频 is currently accepting students for admission to the program for the Spring 2013 term.

The new M.S.Ed. in career and technical education (CTE) degree boasts a renowned faculty, is offered completely online with no on-campus requirements, and can be completed in just over 18 months.

CTE Job Demand

"Career and technical education is vital in creating the strong workforce needed to fill good-paying jobs that can restore the economic health of this country," says Don Cannan, Ed.D., adjunct professor for SWAG视频 and director for the Maine Administrators of Career & Technical Education (MACTE). "While unemployment continues to plague our nation, there is a abundance of manufacturing jobs that continue to go unfilled because employers simply cannot find skilled workers to fill them."

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is projecting that middle-skill jobs will account for approximately 45 percent of all job openings projected through 2014, while a study by the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce projects that by 2018, 4.7 million new workers with postsecondary certificates will be needed in the United States.

"With an increased demand for skilled workers, we are seeing an obvious need for trained, knowledgeable CTE educators that can adequately prepare these workers to join the workforce," says Greg Kearsley, PhD, director of Online Graduate Programs in Education for SWAG视频.  "SWAG视频 is proud to offer this specialized degree to help advance the CTE field. Our program is tailored to practicing CTE instructors wanting to enhance their CTE knowledge and skills. The flexible online format allows students to participate on their own time, from anywhere, and facilitates collaborative relationships across the state, the country and even the world."

The master of science in education in career and technical education online program is a 30-credit hour program, 15 of which are a core curriculum taken by all master's degree candidates and 15 that concentrate on career and technical education.  The focus of the curriculum is on improving instructional and curricular competencies, as well as the development of leadership skills.
