SWAG视频 Faculty Art Show on exhibit at Biddeford Campus
The SWAG视频 is hosting an exhibition of artwork by SWAG视频 faculty members Sascha Braunig, Corliss Chastain and Bethany Haeseler at the Campus Center on SWAG视频's Biddeford Campus.
Braunig was born in British Columbia, Canada, and lives and works in Portland. She received her bachelor of fine arts degree from The Cooper Union and her master of fine arts degree from Yale University. She makes paintings from direct observation of handmade models. The deadpan style of her paintings belies the fantastic subject matter, which is inspired by traditional still-life painting, as well as contemporary commercial photographs. Her work conjures a bizarre and disquieting glamour that is extracted from these sources, distorting the distinctions between blemishes and beauty.
Chastain teaches printmaking courses at SWAG视频 and has been creating and teaching art in Maine for many years. Her studio is in Portland, and she is also a working member of Pickwick Independent Artist's Press in Portland. Her roots are in the Mid-West, where she received her bachelor of arts degree from Indiana State University and her master of fine arts degree from Southern Illinois University.
Haeseler is a contemporary sculptor and glass artist based in Portland, Maine. Her work explores eating disorders through mixed media, focusing on an experience with the body. She received her bachelor of fine arts degree in 3D studies from Bowling Green State University and her master of fine arts degree from Ohio State University.
The exhibit runs from November 16 through January 2010 and is free and open to the public. The Campus Center hours are 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., except holidays. For more information, contact Diane Noble at dbmn27@maine.rr.com.
