College of Pharmacy community drug disposal dropoff program covered by MPBN

MPBN Radio's Maine Things Considered featured a story June 4, 2010 on a prescription drug disposal dropoff program sponsored by the SWAG视频 College of Pharmacy and the City of Portland taking place June 4-5. As word has spread about the dangers of unused and expired prescription drugs falling into the wrong hands or getting into the environment, more Maine communities are holding drug collection events. But the events take a lot of manpower to sort through the drugs. Matthew Lacroix, Pharm.D., BCPS, an assistant professor at SWAG视频 who was helping with the pill-counting in the basement of the College of Pharmacy building, said cleaning out the medicine cabinet can also be an issue of personal safety. "We don't want you mixing up medications that are no longer prescribed for you with medications that you are currently on, because most people keep all the medication in one place."
